# Publish to a free Hercules subdomain

> Every Hercules app gets a free [myapp].onhercules.app subdomain. One per app. Change it anytime. Upgrade to a custom domain when ready.

<Tip>
  Users on paid plans can also [buy a domain](/docs/apps/publish/buy-domain) directly in Hercules or
  [connect an existing domain](/docs/apps/publish/connect-existing-domain) they already own.
</Tip>

Every Hercules app comes with a free Hercules domain at `[myapp].onhercules.app`. To set your subdomain, see [How to publish](/docs/apps/publish/how-to-publish). For a custom domain, [buy one in Hercules](/docs/apps/publish/buy-domain) or [connect an existing domain](/docs/apps/publish/connect-existing-domain).

### Can I change my Hercules domain?

Yes. Click **Publish**, then click the pencil icon next to your subdomain, type the new name, and click **Save**. You can also change it from **Domains** → **Hercules Domain** → **Edit**. If Hercules asks you to publish your app once more first, click **Publish**, then change your domain.

Your app stays published and moves to the new address within a minute. Links to the old address stop working, so update anywhere you shared it. To take your app offline instead, see **How do I unpublish my app?** in [How to publish](/docs/apps/publish/how-to-publish).

### How many Hercules domains do I get?

Currently, unlimited Hercules domains, but one per app.

## Additional FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My antivirus is flagging the onhercules.app site as spam (e.g. Avast, AVG, Norton)">
    Sometimes your antivirus software provider can block `*.onhercules.app`, `hercules.app`, `*.hercules.app`, `hercules-cdn.com`, and `hercules-dev.com` domains. You may see errors like `ERR_QUIC_PROTOCOL_ERROR`, "connection not encrypted", `ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR`, or SSL certificate warnings in your browser.

    **Solutions:**

    1. Add `*.onhercules.app`, `hercules.app`, `*.hercules.app`, `hercules-cdn.com`, and `hercules-dev.com` to the allowlist/denylist settings in your antivirus software
    2. Report the site as a false positive to your antivirus provider
    3. [Purchase a domain through Hercules](/docs/apps/publish/buy-domain) to use your own domain instead

    * You can get an .xyz domain for \$3

    4. [Contact](/docs/company/contact) the Hercules team with your antivirus provider name so we can submit a review
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My published app will not load (ERR_CONNECTION_RESET)">
    This is usually your network or antivirus software blocking the connection, not a problem with
    your app.

    **Solutions:**

    1. Switch to a different network (for example, mobile data instead of Wi-Fi)
    2. Check whether your antivirus software is blocking the connection

  <Accordion title="My users see a 'Failed to fetch' error when they log in">

    your app.

  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I fully remove or disable my onhercules.app subdomain after connecting a custom domain?">
    No. The onhercules.app subdomain is permanent and cannot be removed or disabled. Every Hercules
    app keeps its onhercules.app address.

    Do not add robots.txt blocking or a noindex tag in your app. The same app serves both hostnames,
    so that would deindex your custom domain too. To prefer your custom domain in search results,
    ask Hercules to set canonical URLs to that domain. See [Branding & SEO](/docs/apps/branding-seo).
